Quintessence

Here in blogland, is it all about essence? Is it about our inward nature, our true constitution? Who we really are?

I read your posts and sometimes think... That’s it! This person knows my soul. This person knows my truth. Like art shouted from the wall or music whispered in my ear.

I know they know.

When I don’t post photos of myself, I feel like what you see is my essence. My quintessence. Without distraction. My agelessness. My full human range, from silly to serious. From smothered to smitten. From saint to slacker. From me to you.

And I kind of like it.

I think we love pictures so much because many of us are rooted in a visual culture, myself included. Like your pooch in this pic - looks soooo soft I want to pet him!

I have my own picture of you in my head, based on what I have read of your posts. It could be wildly off base for all I know, but despite the lack of photographic evidence, my brain has put something together. And since it is only in my head, there is plenty of room for the whole range of emotions that is you...

I think its great too. Its like reading a book as opposed to watching a movie. You see it all in your head, you drill to the core of the story and the emotions instead of focusing on the visual aspects.

I come by for the insights, descriptions of other places and Carmen Miranda's smiling face in the top right corner ... ;-)

i love the pictures. I love the way you write this blog! i may not get around here often. but i feel what you are saying! You paint a picture of yourself that makes us all see a soul, not neccessarily a face! I like that!

I love your blog and what you write about. That is just who you are, don't think a picture would make any difference to that.

I like not getting a bead on what you look like. I love the way you write, the emotions you tease up, the fantasy travel life I lead through your posts.

Like Gordo, Carmen makes me smile!

i must say...I'm a first time visitor from Popeyes page. I've only posted pictures once on my blog and not that I regretted it, but I felt like I took something away. Like seeing a movie after you read the book.

Nothing is as beautiful than the way it looks in your mind.

I like it too.
But I'd love to see what you actually look like, as well.

I don't mind when people don't post pictures. I always fill in whatever blanks there are anyway in my own head. I have done this ever since I can remember, and sometimes I do it to the point where I "know" what things are like even though I have never seen or experienced them.

So, I do "know" you, even though we've never met!

What? That's NOT you in the fruit hat? Major disappointment!

No need for pictures from my point of view. Sure, my curious self would like to see you. But i see you well enough without them i think.

As always, cute puppy!

Do you really think us knowing what you look like would CHANGE how we feel about you?

Pfft. Not a chance...

You forget. This world is built on WORDS. And your words, my dear, are always beautiful and interesting.

I admit that I've thought it would be nice to see a picture of you ~ but it's certainly not all that important.

If I can put my fat arse picture on my blog, I figure everyone else is truly safe. LOL

Anyway, the mystery of it is pretty cool, too!

Peace,

~Chani
