Lucia has something to say

Thinking

Thank you to Maggie for honoring me with a Thinking Blogger Award.

Here's what she kindly said:

Lucia - because she takes me beyond my little world and reminds me that this earth we live on is huge and full of people and small in relation to human needs. I love her travel stories and her way of questioning even every day occurrences from a different point of view.

Which, when she put it through Gizoogle just for fun translates:

Lucia - because she takes me beyond my little world.
Lucia - coz she takes me beyond mah shawty world.

In truth, nearly everyone I'd pass this on to has gotten it in one way or another already. I have been wanting to say, though, that I love getting to know all of you. (No, I haven't been drinking. I know that sounds like a sloppy Sally Field award acceptance speech.)

Which brings me 'round to this morning when I read Gary's post on Potter's Blog where he asked the question, "Why do we read Potsblog?" He said,
For some reason, a selection of nice people visit each day. It is a mystery to me.
It's a mystery to me too. Not why people visit his blog. But mine.

So to shamelessly borrow his idea...

Consider yourselves a focus group: Why do you visit Lucia Has Something to Say?

Not into focus groups but I will tell you why I come.

You are an interesting blend of savvy, sophisticated traveller and "regular person". You know, you can sound like Elizabeth Gilbert one minute ~ and cuss and rant (however mildly) in another. You know your own opinions and state them clearly and concisely. I can imagine having lunch with you and not feeling as though I had to "perform" to meet your standards. Even though you do important work and have been many interesting places, you are not arrogant.

In other words, you are not boring. :) When I click in, I'm never certain what I'll find.

Peace,

~Chani

I love your travel stories. You visit countries that I'd dearly love to, but lack the funds and time. You're working in an industry that gives me hope for the world. It doesn't have to be take, take, take. One tired of that and popping in here reminds me that not everyone is like that.

Hmph. I've been having a terrible time expressing my reasons for visiting blogs today.

Beacause i like you, i really really like you. (Sally again)

Ok, for real. I like you. You are thoughtful and articulate. You travel to places where i will never go, where frankly i don't want to go, and you let me see those places. I like how you care about this world and make me care a little more about it too. I want to have dinner and drink a bottle of wine with you.

I think i understand bits of you, you are reserved, to which i can relate. You are idealistic, yet realistic.

I know there's more too. But i was only paid for the 10 minute focus. :)

Because you wear fruit on your head.

Oh, and the traveling, the insightful observations, the excellent prose, the glimpse into the big, little world we live in.

But mostly the fruit on the head.

Because I feel connected to you. You're the only one in my blog circle who's in a similar line of work. Plus I live vicariously through your travel, since you do a little more of it than I do.

I find you incredibly interesting. You have distinct personality traits of acceptance as well as opinions. I do not think that is common.

Also, while I do find your world travels interesting, your writing and perspective regarding local travel create interest, for me.

Its funny Chani mentioned Elizabeth Gilbert, I thought the same thing. Your travel posts are never long enough and you couldn't possibly post enough pictures - ever!

I also like the view into your personal philosophies - you walk into situations I would normally find quite tragic & hopeless with an upbeat resolve that I don't know I would have.

And, well, fuck, you're a fellow Wisconsinite!!!

I visit Lucia Has Something to Say to see if Lucia has something to say. And what are you are saying right now is exactly what I am saying right now on my blog. :)

I love your travel stories and your excellent sense of humor, tinged with a wonderful heart.

So there! That's why I visit. Got a problem with that? :)

I travel vicariously through you, and in my fantasies, take the same trips and then post those lovely photos on my blog. (Which as you've noticed, I never do, as I am not really sure how to do it correctly.)

You complete me. (Hahahahahaha.)

I read your blog for two reasons.
1. You have an exciting career, traversing the world. I like to read about that.
2. You observe a lot of poorer communities, and note that. It reminds me of how lucky i am, and makes me that much more appreciative. It also reminds me to do more to help the less-fortunate in this world.

I come because of what I said and for the great travel bathroom stories. :-)

Oh and the book reviews.

Because your life is so different from anyone I know and the way you so eloquently write about it keeps me coming back out of curiosty of how you see the world.
